Artifort
A short history of Artifort
How Artifort originated
The company started in 1890 when Jules Wagemans started as an upholsterer in Maastricht. His son Henricus Wagemans makes the company a successful furniture factory in the early 20th century. The Artifort brand name is intended to give the company a new boost in the 1930s crisis, and it succeeds. H. Wagemans & Van Tuinen furniture factory has been Artifort since 1928. With this new impetus, the first permanent designer entered service in 1936, Theo Ruth. He knows how to give a progressive design to the Artifort furniture, which is known for quality and comfort.
International reputation for Artifort
The management is satisfied with the chosen course and wants to expand its name internationally. Kho Liang is the man who makes the brand even more successful and is not only a talented designer but also responsible for bringing in Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey Harcourt. Because of these international names, we are also able to attract attention outside the Dutch borders. Thanks to all these top designers, Artifort has realized an enormous collection of design classics, the majority of which are still in production.
