Toon de Wit started his designer career in the 1930s as manager/designer at the first machine chair factory in Overschie. He saw the rise of series production in tubular steel frame furniture during his time at Gispen.
Pioneers in Tubular Frame Furniture
Ambitious as Toon is, he decides together with his business brother Martien De Schiedamse Fabriek van Stalen Meubelen Gebr. De Wit nv. Their focus is entirely on the production of tubular frame furniture, in which Toon's expertise in steel furniture is reflected.
Comfortable, stylish and durable
De Wit furniture meets modern requirements, combining comfort and strength, which often results in graceful designs. In the 1970s, the brothers sold the company to the Exquis furniture factory, where some models remained in production for a few years, albeit with lower quality.
