Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) was a successful Danish architect and designer. In addition to the design of buildings, including the Royal hotel in Copenhagen, he also designed taps, cutlery and furniture. Functional design and 'form follows function' were central to Jacobsen's designs. He was influenced by Mies van der Rohe, Le Cobusier, Charles Eames and the Bauhaus. Jacobsen in turn influenced many other designers.
The Swan became world famous. He designed this lounge chair for the lobby of the Royal Hotel. The chair consists of only curved lines with the elegance of a swan. Jacobsen was a nature lover and was strongly inspired by nature when designing the Swan. The chair is still in production at Fritz Hanzen.
